Opinion: Festiva Resorts Closes Sales Operations in Nassau, the Bahamas

What's Your Opinion? Dear Editor: I have to say things might be just peachy with occupancy in St. Maarten but that doesn’t mean much for us sales reps elsewhere in the Caribbean.

It might interest you to know that Festiva Resorts shut down sales and marketing at the Paradise Harbour Club & Marina in Nassau, the Bahamas just before Christmas and without any warning. Everyone went into work like usual, sitting around waiting for the tours to arrive and then we were told to go home for the weekend. We figured we’d be back on Tuesday just like usual, and then we were told the sales deck was closed for good and not to bother to come back!!! They’ve taken out everything that was in the building, it’s totally empty and all locked up.

That was a small operation, but it means that about 20 people were thrown out of work just before Christmas and none of us were told anything in advance! I think that sucks! How typical of Festiva and other TS companies to shut down like that, leaving its workers totally out in the cold and it’s not like there’s a lot of other places to go to in this economy.

Tourism is down in the Bahamas, there’s not a lot of tourists to OPC on the ground and only a few working sales and I can understand how Festiva might want to cut their costs and all but still it was a crappy and heartless was to go about it!

I just thought your readers might want to know about it! Thanks for the opportunity to rant!
