Scoop du Jour: The State Of Timeshare: Part 5!

March 12, 2010 — I have received some thoughtful comments, input and suggestions regarding this series but earlier this week a certain well known individual wrote me and implied that I was depicting the marketing and sales perspective in a less than appreciative manner.
As a general rule, what one person ‘writes’ (to any publication, blog etc.) often reflects others’ opinions or perspectives and as such I wanted to (again) digress from this series and set the record straight here and now.
First and foremost, I have always admired and respected the vast majority of shared ownership developers and many of the ancillary marketing entities, and quite frankly, even though I’ve owned and operated a marketing company, one of my biggest regrets is that (for whatever reason) I, too, never became a TS developer!
As for the marketing and sales folks who serve this industry so well I can also assure everyone that in all my years, they (mostly) are the finest people I’ve had the opportunity to be associated with and that includes ‘management’ types that are not of the Neanderthal ‘brand’…
And speaking of ‘Brands’, long before ‘they’ entered the arena they mostly sat on the sidelines and bad-mouthed this business for years –until such a time, that is, when we collectively (TS developers, marketing/sales reps) were taking so much money out of their hotel empires they were forced to ‘play’…
To make a long story short, I love this industry and most everything about it and although there are ‘issues’ that need to be discussed, examined and explored etc. the bottom line is that there are few opportunities in the ‘marketing-sales-reps’ world that can even come close to matching the income and lifestyle the TS business provides those who apply themselves.
Now, as for ARDA… (LOL)…
