estin, Florida, on the Emerald Coast of the Gulf of Mexico, is a perfect place for long walks on the powdery white sands, sunset watching, quiet contemplation of nature and luscious seafood dinners that get your hands messy and drip butter down your chin.
OR– Destin, Florida, The Luckiest Fishing Village in the World, is a perfect place for fishing (deep sea, off shore, bottom, pier, bay and lake), boating, windsurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving (reef, wreck, pier and barge), snorkeling, golf, shopping till you drop, gourmet dining, and visiting theme parks.
The thing is, no matter what you like you will never run out of things to do– or not do– in Destin. Whether you like a little romantic getaway just for the two of you or want to bring the entire family– this is the place. Like to play in the water? You can do it in the harbor, East Pass, the Gulf of Mexico, Choctawhatchee Bay, the many coves, bayous, lakes and rivers, the International Water Way, or just swim in the resort pools or at one of the many perfect beaches.
Really like to scuba dive? Timber Hole, a submerged petrified forest brimming with lobsters, sponges and sea squirts, offers unique explorations, as do sunken luxury liners, ships, barges, railroad box cars — even airplanes.
Just gotta get some fishing in? Destin is home to the largest fishing fleet in the state of Florida. The offshore shelf here dips straight from Destin’s East Pass to 100-foot (30m) depths within 10 miles (16km) — the speediest deep-water access on the Gulf. Up to four times more than most destinations, 20 species of edible game fish are always in seasonal runs.
Like to wander around, eating, browsing and window-shopping the days away? Destin offers a variety of shopping venues, from national outlets to exclusive local specialty shops, many locally owned restaurants featuring fresh seafood and lots more.
The ultimate attraction, of course, is the emerald green surf of the Gulf of Mexico, bordered by the soft white sand of Destin’s beaches!
Why, author Anne Rice has even had some of the characters in her books spending some time in Destin. What more could you ask for?
A favorite place to stay is the RCI-affiliated Holiday Beach Resort right smack on the beach in Destin. Family-friendly and as comfy as your favorite pair of shoes, this older resort is a place to come when you don’t want to have to worry about anything at all. The lowrise Phase 1 resort (two stories, with an elevator to the second floor) proved so popular, in fact, that they built Holiday Beach Resort Phase II, a tower a few yards away from the tennis courts– where they continue maintaining their high standard of providing luxury with down-home comfort.
All of the Phase 2 units offer 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, and a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Mexico, whereas Phase I offers studios and 1-bedroom units.
Just look at some of what is offered: a view of the Gulf of Mexico from every room; 500 feet of the whitest sand beach you ever saw directly on the Gulf of Mexico; 2 swimming pools; 2 hot tubs; a kiddie pool; lighted tennis courts; mini golf, shuffleboard, an owners’ lounge; an exercise room; outdoor grills; and patios/balconies for every unit.
Destin Holiday Beach Resort is a family-oriented resort, with planned activities nearly every day that the whole family can enjoy. They have hot dogs/nachos and beer/soda by the pool and the ice cream socials, etc., to enjoy. In the summer they have a band that plays by the pool. And of course there’s that amazing beach always beckoning…
Destin is a good place for a vacation. Holiday Beach Club fits it like a fine leather glove. Go there.
