FORT MYERS, FL (January 25, 2012) — The Lubner Group, internationally respected for its hospitality and commercial design work, has recently completed the total renovation and installation of new furnishings for five “Old Conch” styled buildings with a storied past at the Coconut Beach Resort in Key West, Florida, positioning the resort to enter a new phase in its legendary history.
Located at 1500 Alberta Street on the Atlantic side of Key West, the vacation ownership resort is set against lush gardens and quiet walkways with white verandahs and French doors opening to the sea. The Lubner Group’s design challenge was to blend existing Victorian gingerbread architecture – rich with living history – with a fresh lifestyle in an updated tropical design that invited guests to relax in serene tranquility. Amenities include a pool, Jacuzzi, and private beach. The resort has been named an Interval International Select Resort.
The Lubner Group (www.LubnerGroup.com) completed the six-month total interior renovation project in three phases. Work included the selection of all furniture, fixtures and equipment for the 32 one- and two-bedroom/two bath units plus the resort’s lobby. The Lubner Group also provided design direction for the kitchen and bath cabinetry and flooring.
An important requirement was to create a unified design package for each of the five buildings (two of which were previously single-family homes), with room sizes ranging from 800 to 1,150 square feet and different ceiling heights. The design firm was also responsible for the organization of suppliers and installers, ensuring that work was completed with limited inconvenience to guests during continuous high occupancy levels at this popular hospitality destination property.
According to Nancy Woodhouse, IDS, Lubner Group’s Vice President of Design & Product Development and designer director for this property, “Our intention at Coconut Beach Resort was to embrace an easy living lifestyle by designing and crafting comfortable, yet durable pieces that are eco-friendly. It was important to achieve a timeless design that would last many years, reflecting the vibrant color palette and charm of Key West while preserving the inspiration of the original property, which the owners requested. An extra touch included the addition of custom logo inspired hardware and hand-etched mirrors for each unit.”
Commented Fawni Spottswood, Vice President Spottswood Hotels, the property’s management arm, “We are totally delighted with the finished product. “Nancy did a tremendous job representing the ambience and character of our historical architecture and natural surroundings, while preserving our resort’s charm with a design theme that is all about guest comfort and relaxation. Throughout the entire renovation process, the Lubner Group maintained the highest possible levels of integrity, professionalism and dedication to completing our job on time and within our budget. The new units have been extremely well received by owners and guests and will play an important role in increasing rental revenues in the future.”
Added Dan Lubner, President of Lubner Group and Clive Daniel Homes, “We thoroughly enjoyed working with Spottswood Companies and the Coconut Beach Resort staff to fulfill their design visions and provide them with premium interiors within their design budget.”
