Harrisonburg, VA (July 2012) — C.A.R.E. (Cooperative Association of Resort Exchangers) held its 54th semi-annual conference this May 5-8, 2012 at the Sirata Beach Resort & Conference Center in St. Pete Beach, FL. The members followed through with their ongoing commitment to ‘C.A.R.E. Gives Back” in every city that hosts their conference. For the first time, there were two “C.A.R.E. Gives Back” Events. One prior to the start of the conference as well as another event the day after the conference ended.
On May 5th, more than 50 C.A.R.E. members, in conjunction with Send Me on Vacation, boarded buses to visit the Susan Sheppard McGillicuddy Breast Cancer Center-St. Anthony’s Hospital, and assisted in the donation of ten CD players and headphone sets to the Music Therapy CD Library. In keeping with the foundation’s name, they also awarded two breast cancer survivors with a vacation. The Mission of the Send Me On Vacation foundation is to provide a much needed vacation to women with breast cancer who have undergone treatment and need a place to rejuvenate and heal their body, mind and spirit.
The day after the conference wrapped up, over twenty C.A.R.E. members filled another bus and headed to Ft. DeSoto Park to help beautify the beach. As a bonus, C.A.R.E. members were treated to lunch and an education about the park and wildlife in the area. The park proudly boasts nesting areas for a near-extinct species of bird, which were understandably off limits.
C.A.R.E. (www.care-online.org) began the “C.A.R.E. Gives Back” program more than two years ago following their spring conference in New Orleans. The program designates a worth organization or charity in the area where each conference, both spring and fall, are held and members extend their stay in the city one more day to make themselves available to whatever benefits the area and the designated organization.
