DULLES, VA (October 10, 2012) — Destination Cellars, the first and only luxury destination wine club, in collaboration with internationally renowned chef José Andrés, is offering three carefully crafted wine packages this holiday season. The limited-edition gift sets are inspired by Andrés’ successful Washington, D.C.-based restaurants, Jaleo and Zaytinya, and Andrés’ own passion for the wines of his native Spain. Known for his culinary creativity, award-winning restaurants across the U.S., his role as an unofficial Ambassador of Spain and host of the television series “Made in Spain” on PBS, Andrés shares some of his favorite wines from Spain and the Eastern Mediterranean with these unique offerings. The gift packages will be ready for shipment beginning October 15th, 2012. They are available for order immediately online at www.destinationcellars.com or call (866) 920-9463.
“I cannot imagine a great meal without wine and for the guests at my restaurants we always strive to provide fascinating varieties,” said Chef José Andrés. “The wine is such an important part of telling the story of the people and places that inspire our cuisine — whether it is the roots of Spanish cuisine as at Jaleo or the reimagined Greek, Turkish and Lebanese fare at Zaytinya. In addition there are the extraordinary bottlings that can elevate an experience to be unforgettable. The selections we have put together can help you learn all the talent and passion that goes into wine making.”
Under the direction of Andrés, Lucas Paya, Wine Director for José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup and Sean Meyer, Sommelier for Destination Cellars, curated these limited edition wine packages that include:
Jaleo Collection Gift Package ($300.00)
Three renowned Spanish wines, Vina Sastre Crianza, Joan D’Anguera “Planella”, and Ameztoi Getaraiko Txakolina, are set within a custom-designed Jaleo themed wooden wine box. The selection brings to life the spirit of Andrés’ famed Spanish restaurant, offering an amazing example of classic wines from Ribera del Duero, Catalunya and the Basque region. The gift set also includes José Andrés’ celebrated cookbook, Made in Spain to complete a signature Spanish celebration.
Zaytinya Collection Gift Package ($275.00)
This exclusive gift package highlights the extraordinary wines from some of the lesser-known regions of the eastern Mediterranean. Pairing perfectly with the cuisines of Greece, Turkey and Lebanon found at Zaytinya, this beautifully designed box features lavish wines that are perfect examples of these very unique varieties, including; Argatia Xinomavro, a classic red wine from Naoussa, one of Greece’s most important wine making regions in the mountains of Macedonia. Also featured are Thira Estate Santorini, a full bodied white wine whose makers have been producing wines in Santorini for over 2 generations, and world renowned Chateau Musar from Lebanon’s Bekaa valley.
José Andrés Collection Gift Package ($950.00)
The notably unique José Andrés is offering his famed “serving shoe” as the centerpiece of this limited-edition gift set. The glass shoes, modeled after Converse’s iconic Chuck Taylors, are designed and created by Andres’ good friend and LA-based artist Sami Hayek. Encased in a custom wooden box featuring the signatures of José Andrés and Sami Hayek, the glass sneaker is accompanied by a José Andrés’ cookbook and two luxurious Spanish wines, some of Andres’ favorites, including Pesquera Janus and Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva.
“José Andrés always offers a unique culinary adventure whenever he cooks, which fits perfectly with our goal to provide members with enhanced wine travel experiences,” said David Keuhner, founder and CEO, Destination Cellars. “With José’s innovation and commitment to superior dining experiences and evolving wine menus, I know our members will be thrilled to have access to these exclusive gifts.”
