Tournament sets record for Festiva fundraising event
ASHEVILLE, NC (October 5, 2012) — Festiva Hospitality Group held its 2012 Festiva Charitable Fund Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Wachesaw East golf course in Murrells Inlet, S.C., also the home of Festiva’s flagship resort, Ellington at Wachesaw East. The tournament was a huge success with more than $57,000 raised through sponsorships, player registrations, raffle ticket sales and other donations.
All of the proceeds from the tournament go directly to the Festiva Charitable Fund, a flexible endowment fund that began in 2006 with the intent of providing permanent charitable resources for all the communities where Festiva is located. The primary focus of The Fund is to promote education for our youth and eliminate poverty in our communities and has also been used to respond to extraordinary global events. Each year, the Festiva Charitable Fund committee chooses several organizations to benefit from the fund based on suggestions from employees and members from all of Festiva’s resort destinations.
The tournament truly would not have been a success without the generous sponsors, with $45,800 of the total amount raised coming from these 22 businesses and individuals. More than 100 players in teams of four registered, with registration fees accounting for $7,077 of the total amount raised, and Festiva employee volunteers helped raise an additional $3,040 through raffle ticket, beverage and Mulligan sales.
Tom Garber, a long drive professional in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and a three-time RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship finalist, offered his long drive talents as an additional fundraiser, taking donations in exchange for a drive on one of the longest tees. The pro donated a total of $1,584 to the Festiva Charitable Fund.
The Festiva Charitable Fund is managed by The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting and expanding philanthropy.
