VUOKATTI, Finland (August 6, 2013) — In 2012, MTV3 Finland started filming the popular travel reality show, “Riemuloma Kanarialla”, on the island of Gran Canaria. During 18 of the 36 episodes, participants and crewmembers lodged in the comfortable surroundings of Holiday Club Resorts, located in the sunny south of the island.
Due to the tremendous success of the popular reality programme, “Karavaanarit”, its producers decided to proceed filming a travel reality show, “Riemuloma Kanarialla” – meaning “A fun vacation in Gran Canaria”. The crew started filming in October 2012 and finished at the end of March 2013, whereafter all editing took place. The assignment was intense and at times challenging, but the result extraordinarily entertaining and sure to be enjoyed by all spectators.
The episodes of “Riemuloma Kanarialla” are emitted on MTV3 Finland as of mid-June until the beginning of September 2013. The series is screened during prime time on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 19:30 – 20:00 hrs., and on Sundays there is a rerun of all episodes between 17:30 – 19:00 hrs. The producers hope to emit the series shortly also in Sweden, Norway, Estonia and Russia with English subtitles.
The initial launch of the series on MTV3 was highly successful and received a lot of press coverage. During the first week, there were already half a million viewers. This is an excellent target for Finnish television, considering that Finland has a population of only 5,4 million. Arto Kivinen, producer of “Riemuloma Kanarialla” says: “We are expecting the to maintain an average viewership of 300.000 – 350.000 per episode. I expect that ultimately approximately 1 million spectators will be reached during the running of the series.”
The aim of this programme is to change the perception of Finns going on stereotype holidays in Gran Canaria, and engages them in a large number of diverse activities. “Riemuloma Kanarialla” promotes the island with all its resources as a versatile holiday destination. It is depicted as a healthy environment and an easily accessible destination that offers a multitude of opportunities to holidaymakers. Over 200.000 Finns visit the Canary Islands every year, and out of the entire archipelago, Gran Canaria is their preferred destination.
During the filming of 18 of the 36 episodes, the participants were accommodated in the comfortable surroundings of Holiday Club Resorts in Gran Canaria. These five spectacular resorts are located on the sunny south coast of Gran Canaria in the privileged locations of Puerto Rico and Amadores. Kivinen says: “We very much appreciate Holiday Club’s cooperation during the shooting of the series. It was a tremendous help for us and all the guests that stayed on their premises were extremely satisfied.”
Calvin Lucock, Managing Director of Holiday Club Canarias concludes: “We were delighted to welcome the participants and crewmembers at our resorts and very pleased with their feedback. Gran Canaria has so much more to offer than just discos, bars and restaurants, and the focus of this programme is to show all the other interesting aspects that the island presents. We hope to welcome increasingly more Finns in the forthcoming years to the sunny environment of Holiday Club Resorts.”
