ORLANDO, FL (February 26, 2014) — The Westgate Resorts Foundation has announced that team members looking for an additional incentive to participate in local races in their community will now have the added benefit of their employer’s support. The Westgate Resorts Foundation will now openly encourage team members to form teams, volunteer, and represent Westgate Resorts at local races.
The Westgate Resorts Foundation, as a charitable 501(c)(3) organization with formal ties to a privately-held company, Westgate Resorts, will only be able to finance teams in certain circumstances. The races must be sponsored by or donate all raised funds to a charitable organization of similar 501(c)(3) status. After the Foundation is able to verify that the race’s proceeds go toward such an end, it will be able to finance teams on a “first-come, first-served” basis.
There are no limits on the types of races that team members may volunteer to participate in as a team. Anything and everything from 5Ks and 10Ks to half and full marathons can be subsidized as long as the proceeds go toward a charitable purpose.
If the foundation cannot participate or finance teams to participate, team members will also have the option of participating as individual participants and apply for reimbursement through Westgate Resorts. Team members can receive reimbursement up to $100 per year for races of their choosing that cannot be subsidized by the Foundation.
For example, Races like the Orlando Color Run®, which do not donate proceeds to any charitable purpose, can still be run by team members who choose to utilize the reimbursement option. This allows team members to still pursue the goal of health and wellness for the events that the Westgate Resorts Foundation is not supporting.
For further information about either of these options, please contact the Westgate Resorts Foundation at [email protected], or your local Team Member Services office.
