August 22, 2014 — I’ve been advising for some time now how important it is for developers to have video presentations depicting their career opportunities as well as separately showcasing their resorts to consumers. Some developers knew the significance of videos as a sales tool before I first raised the issue but many have turned their backs on this explosive medium that’s literally shaking up the vacationing industry — and the employee recruiting process.
So Here’s The Scoop: The source for the travel/vacationing data that I’ll briefly reference was compiled by Google and YouTube (*see link below) searches over the past couple of years, so you can pretty much believe what they discovered and reported regarding adult travelers seeking video content for their upcoming travel and vacationing activities.
First off, the number of people searching Google and/or YouTube for travel opportunities is up nearly 120% over the past year. Another finding is that nearly 90% of them are searching for destinations, travel ideas and 58% are actually searching for specific travel related brands and companies, including types of accommodations, etc.
Long gone are the days when the general traveling public was thinking about a vacation and had to jump in their family car and drive down to the local travel agents office to pour over all those colored travel brochures. Bye-Bye!
It’s all now being done electronically and according to Google “two out of every three U.S. consumers watch online travel videos when they’re thinking about taking a trip.”
Let me repeat that: “two out of every three U.S. consumers” are whipping out their hand-helds or using their computers from the comfort and privacy of their homes or offices to seek out and “watch online travel videos” as they dream and plan on taking a trip or vacation.
But hold on Pilgrims because as we all know the timeshare industry is global and according to a recent World Tourism Organization study scores of millions of other folks around the world are vacationing like there is no tomorrow! And within the mix of the 203 nations studied – from A to Z – the research included all the countries where there is active timeshare marketing and sales taking place!
Where are they all going? Well, France is now the number one “foreign” destination on planet earth attracting just about 85 million visitors to their country in 2013.
The USA is in second place with about 70 million travelers from abroad.
Thailand had about 27 million “in-bound” visitors in 2013; Spain had about 61 million; United Kingdom had nearly 32 million and so on and so forth.
Now I’d bet the farm a big chunk of those holiday merry-making sun seeking traveling fools are also doing what their U.S. counterparts are doing: Watching travel and vacation videos online long before they ever leave their living rooms and head off to the airport for a slice of paradise.
Now what do you suppose a savvy timeshare developer should do knowing about that huge online market of adult travelers actively searching for travel and vacationing opportunities 24/7/365?
And the other explosive aspect of videos in the ‘E-Universe’ is for recruiting personnel. In today’s modern era other reports and studies demonstrate that in the highly competitive demand for the best candidates video recruiting is not only streamlining the process but it also contributes to and is a component of a business’ continued success and growth.
That is especially true for budget conscious HR departments seeking cost efficient and effective ways to quickly reach their goals and fill all their vacancies, including at the executive level.
With today’s cutting edge technology video recruiting can even include the ability for the HR manager and/or department to rapidly weed out many less than desirable applicants far in advance, saving the HR department invaluable time.
Video recruiting can also eliminate the laborious and antiquated process of pouring over countless resumes; making innumerable outbound calls often resulting in leaving a voice message; endless call backs from those applicants; and then the initial phone interviews followed by a myriad of appointments with seemingly qualified candidates and the specific department heads, etc.
Today progressive Fortune 500 (and others) companies are seizing the power of video recruiting, lowering their HR costs and are attracting the Crème de la Crème.
