MANCHESTER, U.K. (October 10, 2014) — The Timeshare Association (Timeshare Owners and Committees), TATOC, is delighted to announce that the Lakeland Village, which was one of the first resorts involved with the set up of the association 25 years ago, has renewed its membership.
Set on a seven-acre estate on the fringe of the village of Backbarrow at the southern tip of Lake Windermere, the Lakeland Village consists of ten hotel-based apartments and 37 cottages and apartments.
The original buildings, including an 18th century five-storey cotton mill, had been decaying for many years and were considered an eyesore of industry dereliction.
However, in 1981, local architect Mike Williams devised a project that re-vitalised the area resulting in the opening of the Lakeland Village to its first timeshare owners in 1984.
For the past 30 years, an elected committee of owners has controlled the resort. In 2011, they employed Heritage Resorts to manage the resort on their behalf.
Today, there are 1,400 members and the resort includes the Whitewater Hotel and the Cascades Health Spa and Leisure Club.
The resort is affiliated to Interval International and has held their Premier Resort status since 1984. Owners can also make use of the exchange facilities of Dial An Exchange.
Speaking about renewing their membership, committee chairman Wally Francis explained: “Having been invited by our friends at Dial An Exchange to attend the TATOC annual conference held in Warrington this year, I was hugely impressed by the whole organisation, the professionalism of the speakers and the forward looking stance being taken.
“With the Lakeland Village’s past association with TATOC (my predecessor bar one, Peter Purdon, was involved in setting up TATOC), I felt that a vibrant resort like the Lakeland Village should be associated again with an equally vibrant industry wide body. We look forward to a long and happy association.”
TATOC CEO Harry Taylor added: “The committee at the Lakeland Village has always worked hard for its owners and it is a superb resort. We hope that by re-joining TATOC the committee will be able to share their successes and challenges with others, so that we can learn from each other and gain from everyone’s experiences. I look forward to seeing Wally Francis at next year’s TATOC conference.”
The Timeshare Association (Timeshare Owners and Committees), known as TATOC, was formed 25 years ago and is the only elected consumer association representing the interests of timeshare owners in Europe.
The mission of TATOC is to safeguard and enhance the timeshare holiday experience for existing and prospective users and to be the voice of owners. In recent years, TATOC has focused not only on increasing the membership base but also raising the profile of the Association, establishing TATOC as the recognised voice of the timeshare consumer and an informed point of contact.
The Association is now a regular contributor to the consumer press and works closely with government bodies, the U.K.’s Trading Standards and Citizens Advice Bureau, law enforcement and other authorities. TATOC CEO and chairman Harry Taylor is regularly interviewed on national radio and features in the industry press.
