LAS VEGAS, NV (December 31, 2014) — Diamond Resorts International® (NYSE: DRII), a global leader in the hospitality and vacation ownership industries, has been honored with this year’s American Resort Development Association’s (ARDA) ACE Philanthropic Award. The award comes in recognition of Diamond’s first annual Brian Gay Golf Invitational, which raised more than $410,000 for the Florida Hospital for Children last year. ARDA is a vacation ownership and resort development trade association, which annually recognizes resorts and industry members in categories such as overall professional excellence, product design, outstanding sales and marketing accomplishments, advertising and staff. This year’s Golf Invitational, the 2nd Annual, took place on December 12-14, 2014 at the Mystic Dunes Resort & Golf Club, Orlando, FL.
“We’re pleased with ARDA’s recognition of last year’s successful first Brian Gay Golf Invitational,” said Michael Flaskey, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sales Officer. “The real recognition goes to everyone who made the Invitational possible — the celebrities, golfers, sponsors, fans and everyone within the organization who worked on the project. We’re very proud to have been able to raise more than $400,000 for such a worthy cause and are looking forward to this year’s tournament.”
The Brian Gay Invitational presented by Diamond Resorts International® is a best in class celebrity/amateur golf tournament held annually each December. Last year’s event was hosted by four-time PGA tournament winner Brian Gay, and saw more than 300 attendees, including celebrity golfers like retired NBA player Grant Hill, retired MLB players Reggie Jackson and John Smoltz, retired NFL player Marcus Allen and musicians Darius Rucker (Hootie & the Blowfish) and Scott Phillips (Creed). Last year’s winning team included retired PGA Tour players Carl Paulson and Robert Foster, along with Purgatory Golf Club owner Mike Merchant and his 12-year old son, Clay. A special concert was held on the Mystic Dunes’ driving range featuring an all-star band comprised of the original members from Hootie & the Blowfish and members of Creed. Net proceeds from the event were donated to the Walt Disney Pavilion at The Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. The medical facility supports a world-class staff of pediatric specialists dedicated to the care of children. The hospital’s lobby features Disney characters and interactive games to help ease the fear and anxiety of young patients.
