Cancún, Quintana Roo, MX (January 13, 2015) — Donovan Romero Zolozábal, Concierge at Hacienda Tres Ríos, received the “Golden Keys”, the badge par excellence of an accomplished Concierge which is granted by Mexico’s Concierges Association from the Southeast Region.
Currently in Mexico there are 114 people who have achieved this prestigious award which was presented to Donovan Romero by the President of the Concierges Association and the Director of Operations at Sunset World, Germán Fayad.
Our colleague explained that his project to obtain this award revolved around the work done during the “2nd Race for a Cause 2014”, which made it possible to make a donation for the Ciudad de la Alegría Foundation in its work with elderly people.
Romero Zolozábal stated that one of his goals from the time he began his work as Concierge was to gear his efforts toward the Golden Keys and he was always aware that the road would be long, full of challenges, learning and developing skills in different areas. “Receiving this recognition merely confirms that dreams and goals can be achieved when one makes the decision and gives the best of oneself every day, facing challenges with a good attitude, not being intimidated or discouraged by failures or mistakes. A disposition to learn and the goal of being better every day must prevail”, he affirmed.
With a work experience as Concierge in places like Excellence Playa Mujeres, The Grand Mayan, Hotel Hard Rock and now Hacienda Tres Ríos, Donovan Romero became a member of the Concierges Association of the Southeast Region (ACMRS) in 2011 and among the activities he has participated on are the 10th National Congress of the Mexican Concierges Association in Cancún in 2011 and the 17th Panamerican Congress of Les Clefs d’Or in Las Vegas 2012

The “Golden Keys” are a pair of pins granted by the Mexican Concierges Association, in this case, that are the badge par excellence that a Concierge can obtain during his years of service. In order to obtain them, the Concierge must pass a general knowledge exam, be involved in a philanthropic event, attend local, national, and international conventions of the Concierges Association he/she belongs to and obtain recommendations from active members with the best reputation.
On October 6th 1929, eleven Concierges from the grand hotels in Paris created a “society” that would allow them to exchange service ideas. On April 25th 1952, delegates from 9 European countries travelled to Cannes to attend the first congress thus creating the UEPGH (Union Europeene des Portiers des Grands Hotels). In 1970, the UEPGH became UIPGH (Union Internationale des Portiers des Grands Hotels) demonstrating that not only Europe, but also different countries of the world were joining forces. In 1994 it changed its name to UICO (Union Internationale Les Clefs d’Or) and in 1998 once more to UICH (Union Internationale des Concierges d’Hotels Clefs d’Or) which is currently made up by 3500 members from 37 countries.
