White Point, Nova Scotia (November 5, 2015) — Finding a special one-of-a-kind gift this Holiday Season is as easy as heading to the beach. Artists from all over Nova Scotia will create a gallery-like experience at the 2015 Artists of White Point Showcase and Sale on Sunday November 15 at White Point Beach Resort.
Now in its 3rd year, more than 40 talented Artists from Liverpool, the South Shore and all over Nova Scotia will take centre stage, bringing their work to life through their own voice. White Point once again invited Artists having works on the walls of their Main Lodge, guest rooms and within their Gift Shop to participate in the annual Showcase and Sale.
Joanne Veinotte, White Point’s General Manager, says that the Show is an important event for the Resort and the Artists and is delighted at its annual growth. “We are proud champions of our local, Nova Scotian Artists and enjoy being surrounded by their work. We’ve seen the appetite and desire for Nova Scotia Art grow over the years and our annual Artists Showcase gives the public a chance to meet the creators of amazing works of art.”
The atmosphere of the event is more like a homecoming or a family reunion. Hosted in the Atlantic Room at the Resort, the Artists say they enjoy being at the Showcase and are proud to be a part of the White Point family. Local Artist Deb Sponagle-Taylor says “I have known and loved White Point since I was a child, I’ve even worked here. As an Artist working in a variety of mediums, I appreciate being a part of the Gift Shop but the Showcase is an annual event I very much look forward to. Meeting the public, mingling with fellow Artists within the homey, relaxed atmosphere of White Point makes this event unique and much anticipated for all of us.”
Created in 2012, the show, like the Gift Shop, has grown in popularity each year. “It really is a very special day for everyone,” says White Point’s Gift Shop Manager and curator of the Show, Cathie Pincombe. She acknowledges that there are many talented artists in Nova Scotia, but suggests the White Point family of artists is a special collection. “These artists are as proud to be a part of our family as we are to have them within ours. Their work greatly contributes to our warm and welcoming atmosphere, at the show their personalities and talents really come to life.”
There will be several familiar faces at this year’s Showcase, including watercolour Artist Roger Savage, fabric artist Bev Crouse, Folk Artists Laurie and Maggie Horton and Craig Naugler, Mi’Kmaq basket maker Cyril Moores and author Frances Jewel Dickson. The expanded list also includes newcomers like miniature artist Damien Webb and jewelry maker Alecia Bowers who are also White Point employees, along with painters Marshall Burgess and Dennis Curran to name a few.
Throughout the year, Artists are woven into many other experiences for guests. The Artists take centre stage during the Artists in Residence Program on Saturdays during the summer and on holidays, at Trade Shows the Resort attends and special events like the recent International Day of the Rabbit.
Held annually as part of the Resorts Anniversary Weekend in November. The weekend also includes a White Point Staff Reunion, fireworks and live entertainment on Saturday Nov. 14th. The Artists of White Point Showcase runs 10am – 4pm on Sunday November 15, admission is free. Those planning to attend are invited to make a day of it with a stroll on the beach and make reservations to take in the Brunch Buffet.
