November 27, 2015 — With the recent terrorist attacks I’m reminded of the time when President George W. Bush — before a joint session of Congress with the American public and everyone one else around the world watching — urgently warned that Saddam Hussein and Iraq were “…a threat to the world…” I was appalled by those words because what he was ‘selling’ and what many ‘bought’ was that one little country with a total population of about 32 million at that time was such a great danger to nearly 200 other nations, many with massive military budgets, troops, equipment and all sorts of weaponry including ‘nukes’, etc.
So Here’s The Scoop: Additionally, the U.S. media (mostly) completely ignored that our one time ally, Iraq, couldn’t even defeat their neighbor Iran with a population of about 74 million during a nearly decade-long bloody war in the 1980’s. And then, a few years later Saddam’s ‘might’ was totally defeated and his entire military badly demoralized during the first Gulf War in 1990/91.
Then a handful of years later, in 2002, the “world” was told that Saddam was now “a threat” to every nation and the 7+ Billion souls living around the world.
Along with the USA the nations warned included the 28 NATO members (aka: our Allies) and non-NATO countries (many of them our allies, too) all around the globe such as Canada, India, China, Russia, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Australia, S. Korea and France, etc.
I’m not being political here, I simply want to make a point in light of the recent terrorist attacks. That point is that as much as the ‘talking heads’ and political leaders remind us endlessly of those thugs and the ‘danger’ they present the reality is that the likelihood of being killed (or wounded) by one or more fanatics and other lunatics, statistically speaking, is tremendously low.
Of course that is no consolation for the next person or groups of people who are slaughtered by those mindless barbarians but it is nothing that most of us have to worry about (though always being vigilant and cautious is never a bad idea).
And speaking of barbarians, among other ‘wants’ they claim they want to convert or kill all 6 Billion people of the world currently not of their religion. Now here’s how stupid they are. As an example only, using the estimated 3,000 people murdered on “9/11”, it would take those jackasses, converting and/or murdering 3,000 of ‘us’ each and every single day, nonstop, about 2,000,000 DAYS in a row (5,479 YEARS) to accomplish their objective.
And of course that ain’t gonna happen as it also assumes that over those 5,000 + years there is a zero global birth rate, etc. and all the people/nations/militaries of the world would idly stand by and do nothing while leaders and media ‘talking heads’ continue to preach that we are helpless and doomed while we witness the asymmetrical beginning of World War III – blah, blah and blah.
Maybe it’s true but that is above my pay grade. So I’m not going to lose any sleep over the hyperbole because I’ve been around long enough to also remember how we were once sold a bill of goods about fearing the dreaded “Commies”. That we were “better dead than red”, that there was a ‘commie’ on every corner and so forth. And the irony of that charming era is that today China, arguably the largest ‘commie’ nation in the world, holds over $1 Trillion of the U.S. debt – you know, basically money we borrowed over many years and now owe to those self-same ‘commies’.
That said, it is a real world and with all this in mind I started thinking about resort safety so this week I decided to check out a few timeshare resorts in my general area. My plan was to stand out a bit, not dress like a tourist, to wear sun glasses, a baseball cap and a loosely fitted light jacket with a hoody pulled over the baseball cap. Then I drove to each resort, parked the car, got out and walked about to see whatzup, so to speak.
I was in awe at the lack of any visible safety/security measures as I freely went about my business and was never approached by any ‘personnel’. My sense was that most of the timeshare resorts I ‘toured’ had no observable deterrents nor were they at least on an ‘alert status’ for a total stranger who likely didn’t ‘fit in’, someone who entered their grounds, strolled around the facilities, the lobbies, the restaurants, and hall ways, etc.
And that bothered me greatly because all resorts/hotels/motels around the world have been and still are ‘soft’ people-rich targets. That includes, obviously, timeshare resorts and most of these targets don’t even have one or more armed guards onsite to deter or stop a slaughter should one begin; and that, too, bothers me deeply.
Any attack that might happen at a timeshare resort (and the carnage aside for now) would financially destroy some developers (and their employees) around the world which is reason enough for all developers worldwide to rethink their security and strategies and be more prepared.
Look, I’m not saying the criminals will specifically target a timeshare resort because it doesn’t work that way. What they have and will continue to target are ‘properties’ like shopping centers, nightclubs, theaters, sporting events and hotels, etc., especially where the security is horribly lacking and where they can quickly inflict the greatest damage and kill or wound as many people as possible – including infants, pregnant women, children and everyone else.
The way I see it is that timeshare developers must take action asap and protect themselves, their properties, their employees, their owners/members and other guests because if they don’t do it they are leaving themselves wide open and sort of ‘asking for it’ to happen.
And don’t look for the ‘gov’ to take care of the problem because that ain’t gonna happen until and unless the major world leaders get with the program and actually unite so they can aggressively attack the thugs head on, all around the world, on a synchronize date/hour and wipe them off the face of the earth.
Until then these immoral ass’s will be around for a very long time and that little reality will increase the probability, sooner or later, that a timeshare resort will get ‘hit’ and all their owners/members and other guests vacationing there will become the next casualties of this war.
And when that happens — especially in countries like the USA etc. where lawsuits ‘rule’, so to speak — can you just imagine, after the dust settles from the attack, what the lawyers for the survivors and the heirs of the deceased will do to the timeshare developer when they discover the resort’s security, in this era, really sucked?
“…Keep your powder dry folks…”
Good Luck Out There
