GOLD COAST, QLD (June 9, 2015) — As huge swells and king tides wash up disturbing amounts of litter on our beaches, one of the Gold Coast’s largest employers, Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific, is taking action. Wyndham has announced it has teamed up with Take3fortheSea to help encourage individuals to conduct beach and environmental clean-ups.
“Take 3′ is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to raise awareness of plastic pollution (marine debris) by encouraging each visitor to the beach, waterway or anywhere to simply take three pieces of rubbish with them when they leave and dispose of it thoughtfully,” said Amanda Marechal, co-founder of Take 3.
Wyndham has launched a staff competition to some 2,000 employees across South East Asia and the Pacific Rim to coincide with World Oceans Day on June 8.
“Via our Wyndham Green program we encourage staff to reduce, re-use and recycle. Take 3 for the Sea asks us to go one step further and respond by picking up any rubbish that we see,” said President and Managing Director of Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific and Wyndham Hotel Group South East Asia and Pacific Rim, Barry Robinson.
“With thousands of Wyndham employees positioned close to beaches, waterways and some of the planet’s most beautiful locations, we are proud to get behind this important cause. As a major player in the tourism industry we see it as our responsibility to help protect our coastal waters, which host some of the most iconic marine life and habitats on the planet,” Mr Robinson said.
The Take3 message is simple, each time you visit the beach, a waterway or anytime you see litter, do what you can to take three pieces of rubbish with you.
