White Point, Nova Scotia (November 10, 2016) — Artists from Liverpool, the South Shore and all over Nova Scotia are busy in their studios as they put finishing touches on works they will be showcasing on Sunday November 13th at White Point Beach Resort. Nearly 40 Artists will greet guests from 10am – 4pm as they host the 4th Annual Artists of White Point Show & Sale.
Cathie Pincombe, curator of the Show and White Point’s Gift Shop Manager says it is one of her favourite days of the year. “It’s such a pleasure to be a champion for our artists within the Gift Shop but this show enables them to bring their work to life with their own voice as they meet guests.” The Gift Shop features more than 65 artists in a variety of mediums and while ideally they’d welcome all of them for the show, Pincombe says space limitations of the Atlantic Room prevents them from doing so.
Liverpool artist Deb Taylor is looking forward to the annual showcase. “It is a day of celebration,” she said. “The feeling of the show is magical,” adding no matter what the weather, the crowds keep coming, and the people keep enjoying the day. “I love seeing so many from our community and away. The last couple of years the same people have travelled just for the day for this show from out of town so we look forward to seeing them from year to year.”
Taylor said she also loves having her art in the White Point Gift Shop, even though she is semi-retired. “It’s a pleasure to still create and have a busy venue to sell out of,” she said. “White Point feels like home to all who walk through that front door. The staff today and over the years are the best at making you feel just that, at home.”
For White Point watercolour artist Marg Millard, the support she has received from White Point “has given me the confidence to take my art to a whole new level. It’s great being involved with White Point as an artist”, she said adding, “the annual showcase has developed quite a following and is really a top notch show. It’s really nice to be included in it.”
The White Point experience had such a positive impact on artist Johanna Knopf and her family that they moved to the South Shore in 2010. “My family and I enjoyed the time and just fell in love with this area especially the South Shore,” she said, adding she is proud to be one of the Artists of White Point.
White Point’s General Manager Joanne Veinotte says the Resort is proud to host this annual show, now considered a tradition. “There’s a healthy appetite for locally handmade works of art year round, especially so around Christmas. While we have a number of events through the year that bring artists and guests together, this one has a special feel to it, it’s very exciting for all of us.”
The show is unique in many ways, including that there is no charge to the public to attend, nor the artists who are exhibiting, in fact they keep 100 percent of their proceeds. “We want the public to meet our artists and give handcrafted, made in Nova Scotia items during the gifting season,” says Veinotte, adding “the impacts of doing so are numerous for everyone involved.”
The Artists of White Point Showcase boasts work by those artists whom have work on the walls on the Lodge and in Guest Rooms or are represented within the Gift Shop. Profiles of the participating artists and additional information is available on the Resorts website.
