Consumer Alert: TATOC, the Timeshare Association, based in the UK refutes alliance with Spanish-based company Global who is mis-using the Association’s name in their cold calling activities.
MANCHESTER, U.K. (Nov 15, 2010) -– It has been brought to the attention of TATOC that a Spanish-based company known as Global has been contacting timeshare owners and informing them that they are working in conjunction with TATOC.
It is understood that the nature of the calls is to inform owners of a catalogue of maintenance problems at the Crown Resorts which have been reported by TATOC. No such report has been made and it’s believed the aim is to discredit Crown Resorts using the Association’s name while enticing members to enter into some other arrangement.
TATOC would like to confirm that NO alliance has been formed with this company and suggests timeshare owners undertake due care and vigilance and to contact their management company or committee for further information. Indeed, the Crown Resorts were recently awarded TATOC Accreditation status reflecting the high standards achieved by the resorts.
Mr. Harry Taylor, TATOC CEO added “If we ever form an alliance with an organisation we inform our membership in advance of any activities taking place. No agreement has been made between TATOC and Global and timeshare owners should be wary”. He added “it is an interesting indicator of TATOC’s increasing importance in the timeshare arena that that the TATOC name is being used in this way”.
TATOC exists to safeguard and enhance the timeshare holiday experience for existing and prospective users and to be the voice of owners. It was formed in 1989 and is the only elected consumer association representing the interests of timeshare owners in Europe.
Members’ resorts are located across Europe giving TATOC access to over 250,000 timeshare-owning families. The Association’s original objectives from 1989, are as relevant today as they were then, and include:
- To promote the maintenance of high quality standards of facilities and amenities and to encourage the efficient management of timeshare resorts through communication and education.
- To lobby and campaign on matters related to timeshare and timeshare owners through liaison with trade industry bodies and government departments.
- To assist consumers with their use of timeshare, both before and after purchase, through user guides, helpdesk assistance and by co-operating to remove rogue players from this marketplace.
TATOC’s plans are focused not only on increasing their membership base but also raising the profile of the Association. We are all working towards establishing TATOC as the recognized voice of the timeshare consumer and an informed point of contact.
