f you have the pleasure of vacationing in one of the several excellent timeshare resorts in and around Destin, FL during the weekend of October 27 – October 28, 2012, you won’t want to miss the 17th annual Destin Festival of the Arts. The event will welcome all kinds of artisans and craftsman to the Gulf Coast this fall at Henderson Beach State Park, where taut white tents brimming with brilliant paintings, fantastic sculptures and hand-crafted ornaments are poised to inspire the crowds of art lovers expected to attend. However, considering that the Gulf of Mexico is the backdrop, it may give other works of art some competition.
This signature event is one of the finest art festivals in Northwest Florida and this season will boast over 18 different mediums with artists competing for a total of over $9,000 in cash prizes. Explore a world of art ranging in a diverse palette ranging in acrylic, clay, collage, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, mosaic, oil, pen and ink, photography, digital art, pastel, pottery, sculpture, fiber, textile, wood to watercolor. Meet the artists and add to your own art collection for your home or office.
Other festival amenities feature live musical entertainment, a bistro-style food court, Kid’s ArtStop and festival merchandise. A Collaborative Art Exhibit showcases over 40 community artists representing students and adults.
A food pavilion, live music and children’s tents with activities will top off the festivities making it a stimulating yet refreshing event for all ages.
The admission is $3 for adults and there will be no charge for children under 12. No onsite parking is available; however, convenient parking with a free continuous shuttle is available at Emerald Coast Centre located near Beall’s Department store across from Henderson Beach State Park. Board air-conditioned motor coaches that will deliver you directly to the festival entrance. Henderson Beach State Park provides onsite handicap parking and is A.D.A. accessible. Visit www.FloridaStateParks.org/HendersonBeach for park amenities and detailed information.
While there is no doubt about the amount of beauty on the beach during the festival, it may turn out that the big reveal is the unmatched views of the emerald waters of the Gulf.
Located on Florida’s Emerald Coast, Destin is known for its stunning white beaches and emerald green waters. Originating as a small fishing village, it is now a popular tourist destination –– according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, over 80 percent of the Emerald Coast’s 4.5 million visitors each year visit Destin. The city styles itself “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”, and claims has the largest fishing vessel fleet in the state of Florida.
