Harrisonburg, VA (October 24, 2012) — C.A.R.E. (Cooperative Association of Resort Exchangers) recently continued its tradition of “Giving Back” during its 55th Semi-Annual Conference in Nashville, TN from September 22-25, 2012.
On the last day of the conference, twenty C.A.R.E. member representatives volunteered at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee (www.secondharvestmidtn.org) , a network of individuals, local nonprofit organizations and corporate partners working together to fight hunger in their community. The organization has a major impact on hunger in their 46-county service area in Middle and West Tennessee.
Second Harvest accepts food donations from retailers, manufacturers, distributors, growers, processors and individuals to assist the 1 in 4 children in Tennessee who often go to bed hungry. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive of over 200 food banks and food distribution centers nationwide. During the 2011/2012 fiscal year, Second Harvest distributed 19,400,293 pounds of food to over 400 partner agencies providing more than 16 million meals of food to hungry men, women and children throughout our 46-county service area.
C.A.R.E. assisted in the packing room where they collected, sorted and repacked donated food products for distribution to their partner agencies and Emergency Food Box locations. Second Harvest Administrators reiterated that volunteers, like the C.A.R.E. group, are vital to the success of Second Harvest. Volunteers that donate their time to assist in the goods distribution process and many other areas help them continue feeding hope for those in need.
According to Jeanette Bunn, C.A.R.E. Vice President and event participant, “Second Harvest Food Bank seemed to hit a cord with me. I was inspired by all the volunteers and their spirit as they made sure all food lines were moving. As a matter of fact, if we looked like we were not packing our food for just a moment, we were immediately noticed, and asked to do something else. They really kept us on our toes! Everyone enjoyed our time at Second Harvest and even more importantly, it makes us all want to help others, which is what C.A.R.E. is all about!
C.A.R.E. (www.care-online.org), established in 1985, is the vacation industry’s premier trade association. Its member companies, comprised of Resort Developers, Management and Exchange Companies, HOA’s, Travel Clubs and Wholesalers, provide each other with opportunities for vacation fulfillment, exchanges and revenue enhancement through increased inventory utilization and yield management. C.A.R.E. members are required to comply with a strict Code of Standards and Ethics and benefit from outstanding professional and personal development opportunities at their semi-annual conferences.
