PARSIPPANY, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2013) – RCI, the global leader in vacation exchange and part of the Wyndham Worldwide family of brands (NYSE: WYN), announced yesterday that it is now accepting applications for its third annual RCI Green Awards, which recognize affiliated resorts for their sustainable business practices. The winners of the RCI Green Awards are chosen in partnership with Green Key Global, a leader in eco-certification.
“All of us in the travel industry have a huge opportunity to make a positive impact on our planet by applying sustainable practices,” said Gordon Gurnik, president, RCI. “Going green is not a trend; it is a commitment to doing the right thing for the earth, and preserving it for future generations of travelers. So many of our affiliated resorts are doing wonderful things on the property level and these efforts are also valued by RCI members. We want to make sure their hard work is recognized with the RCI Green Awards.”
Many of RCI’s affiliated resorts have implemented significant sustainability practices on their vacation properties, and the RCI Green Award recognizes the top three resorts in each region with a Platinum, Gold and Silver award. With so many applicants, being named among the top three RCI affiliated resorts is a significant achievement.
To apply for consideration for this year’s RCI Green Awards, affiliates will simultaneously apply for the Green Key Eco-Rating program. Green Key’s certification rates resorts based on operational areas and sustainable practices including energy conservation, indoor air quality, land use and much more. The top rated resorts based on Green Key’s evaluations will receive the RCI Green Awards. All resorts that apply will also be eligible for Green Key certification.
Green Key certification has several benefits for affiliated resorts, including: personalized reports and recommendations on cost-saving measures; exclusive marketing collateral such as a branded plaque and the use of Green Key logos on resort collateral; and eco-recognition through other major brands such as Travelocity, Expedia and AAA.
The application deadline for the RCI Green Awards is Jan. 15, 2014. For more information, visit RCIAffiliates.com.
