Timeshare Resorts Spark Recreation-Themed Vacations
Washington, DC (February 12, 2014) — Looking for a little adventure to kick off the winter blues? Try a recreation-themed getaway with your special someone, suggests the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), pointing to timeshare resorts offering adventure-based activities such as zip lining, rock climbing, ATV riding, and scuba diving.
The adventure travel market is estimated at $263 billion dollars according to a 2013 Adventure Tourism Market Survey. “More travelers want transformative, engaging, and authentic vacation experiences,” says Howard Nusbaum, president and CEO of ARDA.
Within the timeshare industry, developers have responded to the evolving vacation market with expanded recreation- and adventure-based programs. “We know that the emotional connection of a timeshare vacation is about the experience,” says Nusbaum. “Whether that means a new experience or the nostalgia of returning to the place they love, our resorts continue to enhance the guest experience.”
Some of the expanded activities cater to travelers who want to enhance their vacation experience. These include new fitness facilities, bungee trampolines, interactive amusement devices, climbing walls, water sport day trips, horseback riding, and kayaking.
For owners who define recreation as creating a relaxing space to unwind, this is the industry’s sweet spot. More than 8 million U.S. households own a timeshare product with many owners attributing their love of vacationing at least once a year as a main reason for owning. “Timeshare owners value the concept of a regular vacation,” says Nusbaum. “They’ve invested in future vacations with their family and loved ones.”
Whether you want to stave off the winter blues with a recreation-packed getaway or prefer to relax with a book by the pool, give the gift of vacation to your special someone this Valentine’s Day.
