Reams of paper and megabytes of electronic space has been used to study the differences in the shopping habits between men and women. For instance, Amit Shah writes in LinkedIn’s Pulse:
“Shopping” is ideally the hobby of the females. What about men then? Even men like to shop, but not as much as women! Females “love shopping”, they are naturally programmed to invest in their desires and relish happiness in return. A study says, “Men buy for their needs and women shop for their wants”. If we talk about the differences between the male shoppers and female shoppers, one statement perfectly suits, “shopping is a mission for men whereas it is an enjoyable task for women”. Whether it is in an eCommerce website or it is in the brick and mortar store, this behavior remains the same.
One could argue that Shah presents a stereotype, a caricature if you will, of the subject but there is no denying that generally speaking it is true that women seem to enjoy shopping more than men do and that the shopping habits of the genders are quite different from each other.
