BARNSTABLE, MA (December 26, 2017)
n Eastham woman has been indicted in connection with embezzling more than $1.8 million from the Harbor Hill timeshare resort in Provincetown, Attorney General Maura Healey announced.
Donna Zoppi, age 61, of Eastham, was indicted Dec. 14 by a Barnstable County Grand Jury on the charge of Larceny Over $250.
Zoppi was the office manager of Harbor Hill, which operated by collecting maintenance fees and occasional assessments levied on the timeshare owners.
Authorities allege that between 2008 and 2015, Zoppi was the only employee with access to Harbor Hill’s bank account. Authorities found that during this time frame, Zoppi allegedly embezzled more than $1.8 million from Harbor Hill by writing herself checks from the Harbor Hill account, using the Harbor Hill debit card for personal expenditures, making ATM withdrawals from the Harbor Hill account, and wiring money directly from the Harbor Hill account to her personal account.
During the same timeframe, authorities allege that Zoppi took lavish vacations, purchased a horse for her stepdaughter, bought club level seats at Gillette Stadium, and attended the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.
As a result of Zoppi’s alleged actions, Harbor Hill declared bankruptcy in 2016.
The AG’s office began an investigation into Zoppi after receiving calls through the office’s consumer hotline.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Joshua Pakstis of AG Healey’s White Collar and Public Integrity Division with assistance from Investigator Sallyann Nelligan, Director of the AG’s Financial Investigations Division, Victim Witness Advocate Amber Anderson and State Police assigned to the AG’s Office.
