ll around the world timeshare sales reps show up at their respective sales centers each day where, to get things rolling, they’ll usually attend a morning sales meeting. Then, within 30 minutes or so the 1st wave of sales guests will arrive in the reception area and it’s off to the races, so to speak. However, during the daily morning briefing or as the reps ‘meet/greet’ the peeps throughout the day the subject that is rarely on the reps’ minds is how technology & the entire worldwide vacation industry continues to rapidly evolve & how that progress affects the Land of Time.
So Here’s The Scoop Take for example the newest trend in the ‘electronic’ universe whereby the traveling and/or vacationing public – at their leisure & pleasure – in the privacy and comfort of their own homes/offices etc. can quickly secure vacations for themselves, families and friends that now includes their ability to reserve discounted vacationing ‘experiences’ – available just about anywhere in the world.
Now remember that word ‘experiences’ gang – ’cause you’re gonna hear a lot more about that as ‘experiences’ continues to be the new vacation buzz word.
So, for example, let’s say a couple wants to enjoy a vacation to Las Vegas, or maybe Tahiti, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Mexico or a Orlando, etc. and they begin that quest by responding to one of the endless TV commercials that continually reminds them they can select their vacation needs and, now, their personalized “experiences” by visiting (e.g.) ‘Scoop’s Mattress Emporium & Travel Club’ website.
That is correct ladies & gentlemen; real travel-related companies like AIRBNB are now offering the opportunity for all those millions of happy go lucky travelers/vacationers to reserve their “experiences” for their upcoming vacations before they ever leave the couch and pack their bags.
And, like those worldwide discounted vacation accommodations offered by online travel entities like AIRBNB that will enthusiastically rent a fully furnished studio, 1-, 2- or 3- bedroom ‘villa’ with all the bells and whistles, travelers/vacationers are now offered discounted “experiences” for nearly every taste imaginable such as (e.g.) dancing or cooking lessons, regional history tours, surfing or horseback riding opportunities and, believe it or not, private flight lessons. You name it, you can do it.
Literally speaking the menu of pre-booking “experiences” for upcoming vacations has already become too long to list here and the whole point is that the timeshare product/service that we peddle – in some instances and due to technological advances and competition – is quickly becoming functionally and economically obsolete – and, well, unattractive and/or boring, too.
And that includes the timeshare ‘exchange’ component because even though a company like (e.g.) RCI continues to offer airfare ‘deals’ – car rental ‘deals’ – and other such travel/vacation ‘deals’ plus ‘activities’ and/or maybe “experiences” – at the end of the day it can cost TS owners/members, including the annual RCI subscription fee, upwards of $300 to use RCI just to make a reservation (aka: an exchange) for the accommodations in a one (1) week vacation stay.
That breaks down to around $43 per night just to make the reservation!
You know, an additional $600 reservation cost for a two (2) week trade reservation exchange vacation – money, IMO, that some Holiday Merry-Makers would likely prefer to apply towards, oh, say, “experiences”.
Now, in case you hadn’t heard about this phenomenon remember that you heard it here first InsideTheGate.Com (ITG) & please don’t shoot the messenger because all I’m saying is that times surely are a changin’ and it wouldn’t be such a bad idea if our industry adapted to meet the ‘market’ challenges & public appetite so that we have many more decades ahead for us all to market & sell slices of paradise.
Good Luck Out There
